Levels of Learning

The above table aims to convey the various forms of learning that humans undergo throughout their lifespan.

The first column shows the levels of learning and a brief description of each can be found below.

Bodily Learning is concerned with one's physical development with regard to the following systems of the body:
  • musculoskeletal
  • cardiovascular
  • digestive
  • endocrine (hormones)
  • integumentary (skin/protection)
  • urinary
  • lymphatic
  • immune
  • respiratory
  • nervous
  • reproductive

Bodily Systems
Intellectual Learning is concerned with one's mental development with regard to:
  • cognition (relationship of brain and mind)
  • lateralisation (interaction of left and right hemispheres of brain and associated idiosyncrasies, skills and behaviour)
  • brain development (memory and personality)
  • possible disorders or diseases and their effects (individually and socially)

Components of the Human Brain
Emotional Learning is concerned with one's emotional development with regard to how one behaves as an individual in social situations. Emotional development and intellectual development normally go hand in hand to help people develop socially. Interaction amongst both children and adults creates a healthy emotional state and the difference between positive and negative feelings towards any given situation may be due to a person's emotional development.

Spiritual Learning is concerned with one's belief system, personal ethics and morals, opinions and social ideologies. It can often take a lifetime to develop one's spirituality, however the following key areas can give a very brief outline of realms in which spiritual learning can be foccussed:

  • the control of thoughts
  • the control of actions
  • equanimity (balance and calm)
  • understanding every Being
  • complete openness
  • inner harmony

Effective portrayal of one's spiritual development
The second column lists the various aspects associated with the Level of learning that one would experience at different stages in their life.

The third column (using the smaller key table) shows the corresponding age group that would experience those various aspects.

This exercise has been undertaken to give me a more thorough understanding of the requirements of my users when providing not only spaces for 'learning' but also, through the implementation of 'Facilitators', experiences and interaction opportunities that they can learn, develop and grow from.
